3 Steps to Looking + Feeling Relaxed in Photos

Ever wanted to have photos taken, but held back because you felt like you’d be the most awkward person on earth in front of a camera?

You are most definitely not the only one!

Seriously, almost EVERY person who books with me tells me to prepare for how tragically awkward they’re going to be. But, here’s the thing: every single person also ends up loving their shots!

There’s a secret sauce to looking like a natural on film, and I’m spilling it!

Here’s the method to my madness:

#1 Pick a Location Your Kids Will Love

Choosing a location with things your kiddos love will go a long way. Do they have tons of go-go-go energy? Let’s go where there’s lots of open space to run out the excited energy. Wide open spaces like these have minimal distractions like playgrounds + concession stands that will be hard for your little one to leave.

Looking for a variety of backgrounds, Stanley Park offers views of downtown Vancouver as well as views of the North Shore mountains. With beaches, trails + the sea wall, we’ll have tons of locations to choose from.

In the fall, when the leaves start to turn, Trout Lake offers large maple leaves that kids can enjoy playing in. Still not sure? Focus on a location that is super memorable or meaningful for you, and let’s go there.

#2 Get Dolled Up

Choose an outfit you feel amazing in because when you feel amazing, it shines through in your photos. And, having a power outfit locked-and-loaded allows you to enjoy the photo session fully, without worrying about or fussing with your clothes.

Pro Tip: For a family photoshoot, choose Mom’s rockstar outfit first and dress everyone else to match her!

#3 Sip Some Liquid Courage

Ok I’m sorta kidding for this one, but honestly, if a little sip with either help with the nerves of being photographed, or simply give you a moment of peace from your high energy kiddos, there’s no shame in that game! I’m even happy to bring the flask if you want to be extra DL about it.

Ready to book your family session?

Let’s go! Whether you’re looking for a Vancouver family session or Whistler family photos, I’m here for it all!
