Rainy Engagement Photos - Jocelyn + Dale

I have been wanting to do an engagement session on Whistler Mountain all year, and after getting to know Jocelyn personally over the last couple of years, I knew she’d be into the idea. When it came to capturing her and Dale’s rainy engagement photos, they were fully on board for an adventure!

Planning Your Mountain Engagement Session

Whistler is a popular tourist destination, so we planned their engagement session for a weekday to avoid the crowds. Luckily, it also worked better with Jocelyn and Dale’s schedule.

Pro Tip: Weekday engagement sessions tend to be quieter than weekends, even at the most popular locations—perfect for creating intimate, stress-free photos.

Rolling With The Unexpected

A week before their engagement session, the forecast shifted, and rain was on the horizon. Since rescheduling wasn’t an option and the rain was supposed to be light, we decided to embrace the moody vibes and go for it!

Note: If you're planning a Whistler Mountain engagement session, keep in mind that Whistler Sightseeing closes in mid-September, depending on conditions.

What To Bring To Your Rainy Engagement Session

Being prepared makes all the difference when it comes to enjoying your rainy engagement photos. Here are a few essentials to bring:

  • Extra warm layers

  • Gloves

  • Toques

  • Gore-Tex/waterproof jacket

  • Warm/waterproof shoes

  • Toe + hand warmers

  • A change of clothes for after your session

  • Clear umbrellas

Pro Tip: Clear umbrellas allow the most light to hit your face, ensuring beautifully lit photos! You can grab some at Daiso or find them on Amazon.

Why Rainy Engagement Photos Are Worth It

Not every couple hopes for rain, but there are some amazing benefits to having a rainy engagement session:

Fewer People: If you’re feeling a little nervous about having your photo taken, rain keeps the crowds away—even from the most popular spots.

Less Waiting: Those epic mountain shots? With fewer people around, you won’t have to wait as long for your turn to capture breathtaking views.

Memorable Moments: A rainy engagement session makes for a unique, unforgettable story you’ll love to retell.
