5 Golden Rules For Posing

If you feel at all nervous about being photographed, I’m here to help you relax in front of the camera so that your true self can shine through. As a Whistler elopement photographer with years of experience photographing weddings, I’ve found a few simple things make a huge difference!

My Photography Style + Approach

Just so we’re on the same page—I’m all about the candids. I want to capture the real, unfiltered moments, full of emotion, laughter, and all the little in-between ones too. The ones where you forget the camera is even there. Sure, we’ll do some lightly guided poses, but my goal is to make sure those moments still feel like you—natural, relaxed, and totally in the moment.

#1 Enjoy The Views

When we’re setting up for a shot, don’t worry about looking at the camera—focus on each other or the incredible scenery around you. Take in the views, hold hands, talk, laugh, or just enjoy the quiet together. The best photos happen when you’re simply being in the moment. And don’t worry—I’ll still ask you to look at me for that one classic portrait your parents will love!

#2 Hands

Not sure what to do with your hands? Easy—reach for each other. Hold hands, fix their jacket, brush a stray hair away, wrap your arms around each other. Those little interactions a big difference in making a photo feel genuine and connected.

#3 Motion

Humans don’t naturally stand completely still, so you don’t have to either! Feel free to shift your weight, sway, lean into each other, or add a little movement to whatever pose we’re doing. It keeps things feeling natural and dynamic rather than stiff or staged.

#4 Walk Slowly

If we’re doing any walking shots, take it down to about 50% of your normal speed. This helps me capture a crisp, in-focus shot while still keeping that relaxed, effortless vibe. That said, if the moment calls for it, I might just ask you to jog or run—so be ready!

#5 Gentle Guidance

I don’t do stiff, overly posed photos. Instead, I give what I like to call gentle guidance. I’ll toss out a prompt or an idea, and let you interpret it however you want. This way, your photos won’t feel like stiff instructions—they’ll feel like your moments, just with a little extra magic.

BONUS: PDA

When it comes to public PDAs, each couple is different so I take my cues from you regarding PDA’s. I’m down for all the hugs and kisses you wanna give me. And if all you wanna do is sit next to each other or hold hands, I’m down too!
